Peugeot brought the African sand to Padua in 2015 with the saga of the Paris Dakar Rally and the mythical 205 Dakar, 405 Dakar and the 504 BANDAMA in view of the new 2008 DKR 16. At the start of the 1987 event, Peugeot lined up three 205 T16 Grand Raids. In 1988 the Peugeot team at the Paris-Dakar Rally not only included the two 205 T16 Grand Raids – first and sixth that year – but, after the launch of the 405 saloon voted European Car of the Year for 1988 - also the two new 405 T16s. But the true victory came to the Dakar Rally in 1990: first Vatanen, second Waldegaard both in a 405 T16, third Ambrosino in a 205 T16, while the second 205 T16 came 11th, crowning four years of absolute domination. Peugeot continued to win rallies and raids over the coming years. At the Dakar Rally in 2015 the new Peugeot 2008 DKR made its début, already first and second at the China Silk Road Rally after 5,442 km of race.
