The debut of Abarth Classiche 1000 SP
Stellantis Heritage brings to Padua the contemporary heir of the Fiat Abarth 1000 SP by Mario Colucci, which has a special bond with Auto e Moto d'Epoca. The three key principles of this sports car's design are lightness, aerodynamics, and ergonomics. Also on display is a selection of cars from the Heritage Hub − now open for guided tours.
In 1966, Carlo Abarth commissioned engineer Mario Colucci to work on an ambitious and revolutionary project: the Abarth 1000 SP – where the "SP" acronym stands for "Sport Prototype,"
the type of closed-wheel cars built exclusively for participation in sports competitions and produced in very few examples. The result was a lightweight and powerful spider characterized by simple, low, and streamlined lines.
In 2009, after the launch of the new 500 Abarth, new solutions were studied to expand the range of the Scorpion brand. Among the various alternatives, the decision was made to work on a contemporary reinterpretation of the 1000 SP: the result of research carried out by the Fiat & Abarth Style Centre was the style model kept in the Design Centre archives in Mirafiori and exhibited for the first time at the Padua fair in 2021.
The Heritage department transformed that model into a real car produced in a very limited series of five units, which premiered worldwide at Auto e Moto d'Epoca 2022, alongside its 1960s precursor. The staff at the Heritage stand can provide customers with more information and collect orders for the few available pieces.
Recently, moreover, the Heritage Hub, the 15,000 sqm exhibition area inside the Mirafiori complex − the historic FIAT production plant in Turin − has been open to guided tours for the public. It houses over 250 cars from the three Fiat, Lancia, and Abarth brands, as well as a significant contingent of Alfa Romeo, Autobianchi, and Jeep vehicles.
Some of these cars, which tell an invaluable historical heritage of over 120 years of motoring, are on display at the Stellantis Heritage stand at Auto e Moto d'Epoca: in particular, visitors to the show can admire the extraordinary Abarth 750 record, the high-performing Lancia Aurelia B20 and Delta Integrale, and a no holds barred sports car like the Alfa Romeo SZ, and discover the ticket purchase methods for guided tours. In addition, the stand will pay particular attention to the Authenticity Certifications produced in collaboration with Alfa Romeo: on display, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the model, is a specimen of the glorious Alfetta sedan, which the owner decided to have certified by the experts of the Heritage department.
