To be discovered in Pavilion 2, a third fresh restoration series: the most popular Appia and a manual example of Lancia quality. Also new at the stand: the volume dedicated to Appia Zagato with the preface by Cesare Fiorio

The Appia Lancia Club - Appia Register will be taking part in Auto e Moto d'Epoca with a third series that has just undergone a meticulous complete restoration. 50,000 of this model for families, which was made from 1959 to 1963, were sold in total, sharing both the engine size and market segment with the Fiat 1100.   But the difference between the two cars was significant. Whereas the Fiat was spartan and essential, the Lancia exhibited all the attention to comfort and technologically refined solutions for which the brand is still remembered, from the innovative V engine to the velvet inserts and the soft and comfortable shock absorbers.

A curiosity: among the models of the third series there were some with right-hand drive that were not for the British market. In actual fact most of the Lancia vehicles of the early 1950s were right-hand drive whereas left-hand drive vehicles only became established over the decade before becoming the norm.

The Appia was available in the grand tourer version with Zagato bodywork to which another new feature of the 2019 edition will be dedicated: the presentation of a large volume that focuses on these grand tourer versions starting from the first GT Export series affectionately called “Bassotto” (sausage dog). The book is by Gino Giugno and Loris Chioetto with a preface by Cesare Fiorio, the Italian GT category champion with Appia Zagato

There is also another peculiar feature in the photograph: a single model of a Lancia Appia ambulance made in 1958, a model ordered from Lancia by the Trigona hospital in Noto and whose bodywork was specifically built based on the flatbed of the Appia van.
