THE FIAT 127 HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEARTS

Low and chunky, this car was the most loved economy car in Italy for 15 years

A transverse 903 front engine with 45 horsepower. More than enough to drive Italians around from 1971 to 1986, even though engines with 1050 and 70 horsepower arrived soon after with the sought after 'Sport' series.

The 127 was a highly successful economy car and, to this day, it boasts many collectors and aficionados. Over 1,000,000 models of this car which dates back to 1971 were produced in its first 1,000 days.

50 years since its arrived on  the car market, the 127, which came straight after the 850 in the 1960s and before the Panda, has an important place in the history of cars in general and Fiats specifically.

This spacious, affordable,  low consumption vehicle with front-wheel drive is deeply loved and affectionately remembered, even for its trademark flaw: the rust on its car doors.

After all, when we reminisce about a car we loved, we also smile when thinking about its flaws − when we do so, then it means it truly has become a classic.
