Showcased in 1971 and produced up until 1978, this model designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and created by Technical Director Giulio Alfieri represented a revolution for the Modena-based car-manufacturing house.

Bora was created with specific competitors to beat: Lamborghini, Ferrari and De Tomaso.

The Lamborghini Miura of the previous decade had in fact been the model that had led to a change in taste when it came to  luxury and performance.

The new Maserati, requested by Citroën - which at the time owned the Tridente brand - was designed to be a Gran Turismo capable of reaching 270 km per hour, offering both comfort on long journeys and captivating lines. This car was created with the American market in mind.

This milestone was reached, even if the petrol crises of those years dramatically reduced the sales of the Bora with its V8 310 horsepower engine. Of the two 4.7 and 4.9 versions (created for export to the USA), only 564 were produced.

The car's impact, however, went beyond sales numbers. Bora was able to break the mold and revolutionise the production, planning and philosophy of Maserati, giving the Modena-based car manufacturing house a new horizon and renewed trust in its own abilities.
