Alfa Romeo brings the history of the sports sedan to Bologna

From the Giulia TI Super to the Giulia Quadrifoglio, over sixty years of evolution of the sports sedan, a concept “invented” by Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo will be at Auto e Moto d’Epoca 2026 with four cars showcasing the evolution of the sports sedan: the Giulia TI Super, 75 Turbo Evoluzione, 155 V6 Ti ITC and Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The journey spans more than sixty years of the brand’s history, from the 1960s to the contemporary interpretation of the sports sedan. The three historic cars are part of the Heritage Hub Italy collection, on display at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese (Milan), and will be exhibited in Bologna alongside the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The journey begins in 1963 with the Giulia TI Super, the ready-to-race version of the Giulia, unveiled on 24 April at the Monza National Autodrome and produced in 501 units. Featuring a lightweight body and a 1.6-litre twin-cam engine producing 112 hp, it provided an ideal foundation for competition. Its dynamic qualities enabled it to secure several class victories, including at the 1963 Tour de France Automobile, one of its most significant achievements.

In 1987, the 75 Turbo Evoluzione brought the sports sedan back into the world of touring car racing. Produced in 500 units to meet Group A homologation requirements, it was the model with which Alfa Romeo officially competed, alongside private teams, in the World Touring Car Championship. Its renowned 1,762 cc twin-cam engine was equipped with a turbocharger and intercooler, while the body featured a number of aerodynamic elements developed to enhance track performance.

Almost ten years later, the 1996 155 V6 Ti ITC represented an even more radical evolution of the racing sedan. Developed from the car that had secured the 1993 DTM title with Nicola Larini, the ITC version was powered by a 90-degree V6 producing 490 hp and capable of reaching almost 12,000 rpm. The introduction of this engine midway through the season enabled Alfa Romeo to regain a leading position in terms of performance in the championship.

The journey concludes with the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the contemporary interpretation of the Alfa Romeo sports sedan and the culmination of a history that has consistently connected road cars and racing through performance and technology.
